From Thanksgiving to New Year’s Day, it’s all about the food. Valentine's day is for love.

If you need a break from traditional holiday over-indulgence, consider going to a New Orleans steakhouse (yes, a steakhouse!).

Dickie Brennan’s Steakhouse offers many simple, and simply delicious, dishes, including the Daily Vegetarian Special, a welcome relief from the rounds of high-calorie – though undeniably delicious – holiday fare.

Desi Vega’s New Orleans Steakhouse offers seven different salads; if protein is what you’re after, check out the Gulf Fish of the Day.

Chophouse New Orleans has some of Crescent City’s best stone crabs, and if you don’t dip them in butter, you have a relatively low-calorie/low-fat repast.

Doris Metropolitan has an incredible selection of red meat, though if you’re trying to eat light, go with the Artichoke Flower Salad and the ever-changing Daily Seafood Preparation.

The Red Maple has an awesome fish selection, and we could not be more enthusiastic about their Redfish Pontchartrain and Tuna Tagliata.

Mr. John’s Steakhouse obviously serves steak, but if you’re going light, you want the Gulf Fish of the Day, or (if you must have meat) their spectacular Surf and Turf.

Fleming’s Prime Steakhouse and Wine Bar has a national reputation for high-end dining, and we recommend the Truffle Poached Lobsters (hey, it’s rich, but it’s seafood!).

Steak Knife Restaurant & Bar is so much more than steak, and you’re going to love the Gulf Fish Robert, with lump crab meat and beurre blanc.

Crescent City Steaks serves steak (naturally) but also much lighter stuff, like beautiful, broiled salmon and lobster tail.

Rizzuto’s Ristorante & Chop House offers awesome Italian plates of Seafood Manicotti and Crab-Stuffed Mushroom Caps, proving that steakhouses serve lots of excellent food beside red meat.
