For Father's Day, Take Him to One of Chicagoland's Best Steakhouses

For Mother’s Day, we take mom to brunch. For Father’s Day, we take dad to…a big, beautiful beefsteak dinner.

In Chicagoland, if you’re looking for a steakhouse to bring your male parental unit, you don’t have to look far. There are many, many emporia of excellent meat, from fancy downtown places to less well known but no less excellent steakhouses in outlying areas.

Some of these steakhouses you’ve probably visited, others you’ve probably never heard of at all, but all are very fine places to dine any time of year. All are guaranteed to provide you and your father with a memorable dining experience, and just as importantly, opportunity to bond over beef.

Here’s a list of seven of Chicago’s best steakhouses for taking your dad on Father’s Day, June 16.

Steak + Vine

Mirabella Italian CuisineThe Head Chef from the legendary Gene & Georgetti opened his steakhouse, Mirabella Italian Cuisine, miles from The Loop. In addition to many Italian American favorites, there are hand-cut steaks that will blow dad’s mind, but not your pocketbook, including standouts like Mirabella Broiled Steak and Broiled Steak Vesuvio.

Steak + Vine. In LaGrange, you’ll find Steak + Vine, one of Chicagoland’s finest places for red meat. The showstoppers are USDA Prime Ribeye Steak and USDA Prime New York Strip Steak. All steaks can be “topped” with a delicious selection of crusts, including bleu cheese, horseradish and Parmesan. If you’re located in the Western suburbs, Steak + Vine is a top choice and a short drive.

Sam and Harry’s. Popular for business lunches, date night and, of course, Father’s Day, Sam and Harry’s in Schaumburg offers some amazing meat. Highly recommended are The Delmonico and Niman Ranch Top Sirloin, done just right by a kitchen crew that knows what they’re doing.

The Grillroom Chophouse and Winebar

Smith & Wollensky. One of the premier steakhouses in downtown Chicago, Smith & Wollensky also has one of the best locations of any Chicago restaurant, right along the Chicago River, with fantastic views that match the fantastic food. For a special occasion like Father’s Day, treat the great man to something special, like a Snake River Farms American Wagyu Tenderloin or the Signature Filet Mignon.

The Grillroom Chophouse and Winebar. In the heart of The Loop, with warm wood finishes and tall, leather-lined booths, ideal for conversation, The Grillroom Chophouse and Winebar also has some of the best dressed meat around. Prime T-Bones, New York strip and other classic cuts can be dressed up with hickory smoked mushrooms, gorgonzola and butter-basted jumbo shrimp.

Final Cut Steakhouse. In Joliet’s Hollywood Casino, Final Cut Steakhouse provides exceptional red meat in an atmosphere of fun and excitement. Porterhouse, bone-in ribeye and all your favorites are finished with honey butter Cabernet, black truffle butter, Maytag blue cheese and many other fantastic enhancers.

Hugo’s Frog Bar and Fish House.  Admittedly, Hugo’s Frog Bar and Fish House does not sound like a steakhouse…but it is, and a very good one. On the menu, you’ll find that the steaks are from Gibson’s, a sister restaurant: Gold Coast Sirloin, Porterhouse, and W.R. Chicago Cut (named after William Rice, legendary Chicago food journalist). Hugo’s on Father’s Day serves a steak dinner to remember.
