Sushi Nakazawa - New York
You'll find only an omakase tasting menu at this eatery on a quiet, tree-line street in the West Village. Sushi Nakazawa is spearheaded by chef Daisuke Nakazawa, who appeared in the acclaimed documentary "Jiro Dreams of Sushi" as an apprentice at Sukiyabashi Jiro in Tokyo.
Read MoreAt Sushi Nakazawa, his menu is sushi only, and the menu changes daily with the wildly sourced products brought to the restaurant. There's an emphasis on international and local products, of course. Previous offerings have included hay-smoked sockeye salmon, soy-marinated king salmon, dungeness crab, Pacific barrelfish and Japanese sea urchin.
Diners may get a little bit of red meat at the restaurant. The seared wagyu, a top-notch piece of Japanese A5, remains among the best offerings on Sushi Nakazawa's menu. Also note that there is no sashimi or vegetarian/vegan items on the menu.
