Right across the street from Grand Central Station, in a calm and sophisticated space, Davio’s Northern Italian Steakhouse offers a respite from Manhattan hubbub and some of the best steak you’ll find anywhere in the city. Pasta is hand-made, and the Italian offerings are more than an after-thought; it’d be a mistake to go home without trying them.
Glancing at the menu for Davio’s Northern Italian Steakhouse, you’ll immediately see why it’s getting notice from the “Wall Street Journal,” “Huffington Post” and other respected (and a few disrespected) news sources: this is clearly a steakhouse that goes beyond expectations.
The starters are appetizing and anything but routine: Spanish octopus, cucumber gazpacho, Kobe meatballs, things you don’t usually find on other steakhouse menus. Of course, there are some menu items you find – and most definitely expect! – at most steakhouses: filet mignon, sirloin and rib-eyes. And meat such as this, at Davio’s Northern Italian Steakhouse, is prepared by pros. As noted by the bros-in-suits who write the blog “Men Who Dine,” “For us, a steakhouse is simple. If you procure high quality beef and you know how to properly season and cook it, the result should be, at worst, something great. That being said, many steakhouses unfortunately fall short of that greatness. Davio’s is better than great. They are serving world-class beef executed to the highest degree of excellence. That is what we love and admire. Do it right or go home! “
There are also some outstanding seafood options – East Coast halibut and Georges Bank sea scallops, for example – that deserve attention. Of course, there’s a bountiful wine list. For those who need it, there are gluten-free options for both lunch and dinner; at lunch time, you can also get a pizza (of course: this is a real Italian place!).
It must be mentioned that Davio’s Northern Italian Steakhouse makes their pasta in-house, and it’s all served in a beautiful off-white dining room, with stately columns, and white-jacketed servers who are exceptionally attentive and professional.
