5A5 Steak Lounge - San Francisco

Get your fill of steaks, chops, and more at this San Francisco steakhouse, who are known for some of the best happy hour specials around. Travel & Leisure magazine rated 5A5 as one of American's best "happy hours." It's only available in the lounge, happens 5-7pm Monday through Friday, and features mostly an Asian-inspired menu. Expect bites like duck confit crispy roll, truffle fries topped with sriracha aioli, and tempura shrimp that come with a lemongrass aioli.

Those happy hour options are a great way to whet your appetite before digging into hearty steaks, chops and seafood dishes. The menu boasts top quality steaks from around the world--including certified Angus beef and Australian "Kobe" and the grade A5 100 percent Japanese Wagyu. Those not in the mood for steak may choose from the likes of pan-seared sea bass, free-range roast chicken and grilled lamb chops.

The restaurant's dining room and cocktail lounge are both modern in design.

I had made a reservation to dine at this restaurant right before the pandemic hit, so I of course wasn't able to go. I ended up buying a gift card to the restaurant because they were being promoted on the 5A5 website and were on sale, and I still really wanted to go as soon as it was safe to do so. That was a year and a half ago, and I've been waiting to see if any updates would be posted on their website regarding a timeline to reopen. There have been no updates posted on their website since May 2021. I understand that the restaurant business has been hit hard by the pandemic, but I began to grow concerned that this place was permanently closed and I called them to get an update on reopening, or a refund on my gift card. They never returned my call. I also submitted a message to them through their website, and they never contacted me. I would have been excited to use the gift card later, but my attempts to get in contact with them have been completely ignored and I worry that I'll never get my money back from them. Really shady.

May very well be the future of steak houses, unbelievable. How does this place also have some of the best scallops I’ve ever tasted? Perfect is the word when describing the slabs of meat coming from this kitchen. The porterhouse and mignon were perfect. The porterhouse came with a bacon jam which was an excellent combination with the steak. Now let’s talk scallops. The scallops were incredibly delicious, amazingly prepared, a nice size and swimming in a delectable butter sauce. The amount of amuse bouchée and palate cleansers is Michelin star worthy. Seriously how does this place not carry a star? Great food, fantastic service, amazing ambiance, what else is left? An incredible dinning experience and definitely worth the price. Dos steaks up. 🥩🥩

Love this place. The waiter’s and waitresses were super attentive. They have fast service and their food was delicious. Great place very relaxed atmosphere.

It was a mediocre steakhouse. I got the bass. Cooked to perfection and tasted great. Ordered the banana pudding fluff thing. Cool to watch the server break the puff and mash it with the topping. Looks big but it was gone in like 3 bites. Staff were all very cool.

Great place to get something when in a rush. Their customer service is rapid, pricing is reasonable, great ambience. I highly recommend this place

Phenomenally overpriced and overrated. If a $59 filet was tasty and cut like butter, it MAY be worth it. But sadly that wasn't the case. $33 for a side of truffle mac n cheese with lobster was good, not great, and barely large enough for 2. Atmosphere was nice, though it looks like something from generic from the 1980s. Service was excellent, though.

While the service is great, the food is very mediocre. The meat on both steaks that we ordered was overcooked and dry. The starters were OK, but again, nothing to rave about. I would consider other options since the food should be much better than this at this price point

Really good Japanese steak offerings and pricey. They also have a well rounded whiskey list. The steaks other than the Japanese cuts are not even prime, so beware that this is not your typical steakhouse, but it is good.

This restaurant earns the title of one of the top 25 Steakhouses in the country. The 5 A ribeye was excellent. The mac and cheese gnocchi was delicious. Hana paired an fantastic wine (Martin Ray) with my meal. The bacon Bread was unique and good. This place has a good atmosphere for business or a group meeting. The staff was great and the service met or exceeded expectations at every level. If you are a steak lover this place is a must. The only thing that could make it better is live music and a larger portion option. As far as price, you get the quality you pay for.
