Let me start by saying our server evan was awesome, he had to deal with an error from the kitchen and a mistake from expo but did so with grace and his careful attention made up for the errors. If it were not for him and the awesome host who’s name I didn’t catch, but was tall with dark curly hair, than I would leave 3-4 stars. My entree the scallop (10$+ per scallop) was riddled with sand, rubbery, had no sear, and was poorly seasoned. As a chef I would be ashamed to have my name on a menu serving scallops with sand in them
especially poorly cooked ones. I know if Michael Mina had my experience tonight that chef would be fired. The kitchen/chef didn’t make any attempt to make up for their honestly pathetic error, our delightful server however quickly replaced my entree with a nice yet not particularly amazing in any way salmon dish. A few other errors combined with that kind of ruined my experience it was akin to dining at a red lobster which is such a shame since it’s obvious a lot of people in the restaurant care a lot about the food/service, just not everyone. The team has the time to fold napkins when people use the restroom hey can’t clear crumbs from the table. And what’s up with table side food boxing, everyone thought it was weird and awkward when two people spent like 3 minutes at our table putting our food in boxes taking up lots of space and halting any conversation. I also ordered a to-go mac and cheese that expo let get to my table in a dine in bowl. It’s hard to appreciate how awesome our server and host were when they perfectly describe an awesome scallop dish and it comes out piss poor. The chef spent 10
minutes chatting with another table but didn’t bother coming to check on our meal or ask about the scallop dish. a blindfolded home cook would’ve done a better job, and this isn’t just one persons personal taste. Sand in a scallop is objectively bad, a rubbery scallop with no sear is objectively bad, seasoning is subjective however. And it’s not like every dish was perfect except this one, everything else was decent. The duck spring rolls which are egg rolls not spring rolls (objective) were tasty and nice. The steak was well cooked and seasoned. The salmon had crisp skin and tender flesh yet was under seasoned. The fry trio was awesome and the accompanying sauces were pretty good. Sending out a scallop with sand in it for any restaurant is not a mistake that should be taken lightly it is the most fundamental part of cooking any food, cleaning it. And how hard is it to heat your pan before placing in the scallop, neither side had any hint of a sear. I could go on all day but I think I got the point across, whoever was responsible for cooking and cleaning the scallops on 5/24 is not fit for a fine dining environment, the chef failed today for not checking the quality of the food being prepared and sent out, the expo failed by letting to go food be sent for here and sending out inedible scallops, and the host and server were knowledgeable, attentive, kind, personable, and did the best with the policy/food they were given to work with. Evan and the nice tall dark curly haired host with the mask under the nose are super awesom, deserve the highest praise, and are the reason for this 5 star review!!!
