St. Charles Place - St. Charles

Don’t let the leather banquettes, chandeliers and super-attentive service fool you! St. Charles Place is the kind of western suburban restaurant where you feel immediately at home, comfortable and cared for, with many wonderful options on a steak-forward menu.

Though red meat takes center stage at St. Charles Place, there’s a wide range of fish, seafood and gluten-free options; anyone who walks through the doors will find something on the menu that will make them happy.

The dining room at St. Charles Place is truly something to behold. The walls are covered with eclectic art and, get this, there’s a tree in the center, right near the bar. But you’re most interested in the food, right?

There’s a supper club vibe to the appetizer menu, which lists old school favorites like French onion soup and shrimp cocktail. Among the starters are several Chicago original foods, including flaming saganaki (invented in Chicago’s Greektown) and Shrimp de Jonghe (first served at DeJonghe’s Hotel and Restaurant on Monroe), as well as contemporary starters like the ahi tuna tartare with avocado and coconut shrimp.

If you’re in the mood for casual, St. Charles Place has many outstandingly delicious hamburgers, including the Bistro Burger with mushrooms and cognac sauce and the Sloppy St. Chuck with BBQ sauce and caramelized onions.

And then the meat, ahh…the meat. St. Charles Place serves only USDA prime certified Angus beef, sourced from the Midwest, aged 40 days, hand selected and butchered in house. There are classics like steak au poivre, steak Diane, and slow-roasted prime rib au jus. We especially like the grilled ribeye for two, marinated and fire-broiled with mushrooms: it’s everything a steak should be, and if you’re very hungry, heck, you can probably eat the whole thing yourself (perhaps not recommended, but possible).

For dessert, as you might expect, there are some drinkable options, like the brandy ice (“the ultimate brandy Alexander”), French kiss (Courvoisier with Chambord), and Kavalan, a single cask/single malt rarity (a perfect ending after a steak dinner).

St. Charles Place serves a meal you will not forget, and you will want to relive that feeling again and again.
