The Chop House - Ann Arbor
Mainstreet Ventures' The Chop House opened first in 1998 in Ann Arbor, Mich., followed soon with outposts in Grand Rapids, Mich., Annapolis, Md. and Charleston, W.V. It's a steakhouse, of course, with USDA prime beef that's been wet aged for 28 days to 34 days.
Highlights on the steak menu range from a 22-ounce cowboy steak that comes Southwest inspired, barbecued or blackened to an espresso-rubbed filet mignon. Diners looking for options beyond beef may choose from pan-seared Diver scallops, pepper-and-coriander crusted tuna or rosemary-scented chicken.
The original Chop House as well as the Grand Rapids' outpost is especially popular for its adjacent La Dolce Vita dessert and cigar lounge. This is where diners settle in post-dinner for gourmet pastries, cordials and cigars.
Grabbing a quick bite at the bar? Crispy fried Maine lobster bites, Moroccan shrimp and sweet and spicy calamari are crowd pleasers.
