John Howie Steak

John Howie Steak - Bellevue

Pacific Northwest stalwart John Howie Steak is in the middle of the action in Bellevue, Wash. It's a stone's throw from The Shops at The Bravern, Bellevue Square and Crossroads Bellevue as well as Glendale Country Club.

Named after the owner/chef, the modern steakhouse serves lunch and dinner. There's an emphasis on high-quality steaks like U.S.D.A. prime, and wagyu beef from America, Australia and Japan. John Howie offers two steaks served tableside and there's meant for two people to share.

There's a 24-ounce prime Chateaubriand that's mesquite grilled, then served with oven roasted vegetables and classic Courvoisier maître d’ sauce. The 36-ounce prime bone-in ribeye is another option. It's also mesquite grilled and arrives with duck fat-roasted Yukon gold potatoes, Cipollini onions and roasted bone marrow.

Additional steak selections include a 70-day aged ribeye, 35-day aged New York strip and 28-day aged Porterhouse. Steak toppings are plentiful at John Howie. Guests may choose from such options as cognac and green pepper sauce, Argentinean chimichurri and black truffle butter.

Though steak is preferred choice here, John Howie prides itself on non-meat entrees as well. Choices range from roasted Jidori chicken with basil pesto mashed potatoes to basil pesto risotto.

Even more non-steak dishes are available during lunchtime. A chipotle chicken fajita salad, Applewood grilled seafood salad and Alaskan king salmon club are only a few of the menu items popular with the business crowd.

Happy Hour is 3-6pm daily, plus 9-11pm Monday through Thursday and 10pm-midnight Friday and Saturday. It occurs in the bar only, with offerings such as spicy tenderloin bites, wagyu beef fat truffle fries, deviled eggs with truffle bacon and king salmon carpaccio. Discounted drinks include beer, wine by the glass and select cocktails.

And Sundays are reserved for family-style suppers. Recommended for four people, John Howie Steak's deal is four courses that consists of an appetizer (lobster bisque, Caesar salad), steak (bone-in ribeye, Porterhouse, Chateaubriand, wagyu beef sirloin roast), sides (mesquite grilled corn with honey chipotle butter, brown butter asparagus spears, mac and cheese) and dessert.
