JaK's Grill - Seattle

It's always first come, first served at JaK's Grill, the no reservations restaurant that's been a popular neighborhood hangout since opening in 1996.

There are three locations (Issaquah, Laurelhurst, West Seattle), and a big draw at them all is happy hour. That includes discounted cocktails, draft beer, house wine, and bites such as a BBQ pork sandwich, burger, grilled chicken Caesar salad. There's even a brunch happy hour happening 9-10am Saturday and Sunday. Classic brunch cocktails (Bloody Mary, Greyhound, Seabreeze), biscuits and gravy, and a ham and cheese scramble are discounted and available in the bar only.

Another popular deal is the Monday night prime rib special. It's a good deal at $25, and guests get a premium, 12-ounce cut of beef with all the fixings. It's highly recommended that guests arrive early to take advantage of the Monday night special.

The specialty at JaK's Grill is steak, and the restaurant specializes in corn-fed, Nebraska-raised beef. The beef is dry or wet aged, depending on the cut, for a minimum of 28 for the best flavor. All dinner entrees include a salad, vegetables, a choice of potato and hot sourdough bread.

Examples of what to expect range from a dry-aged New York strip to a prime Porterhouse that's a 24- or 36-ounce cut. To amp up the flavor, diners may order béarnaise, béchamel, demi-glace or sauce au poivre sauce as toppings.

Seafood entrees are also plentiful at JaK's. Choose from lobster mac and cheese, spicy grilled prawns that have been ancho-chili rubbed, prawn scampi and crab-stuffed halibut.

Those looking for lighter menu options should also be pleased with the selections. Sweet pea ravioli and prawns, a grilled chicken dinner and grilled veggie skewers are only some of the available dishes.

During lunch, guests should expect many items from the regular menu as well as several daily specials. They include a prime rib dip (Tuesday), Sedona chicken sandwich (Wednesday) and halibut fish and chips (Friday).
