The Grill at Forty 1° North - Newport

What's not to love about The Grill? It's an all-day eatery where diners may start the morning with brioche French toast on the dock or end the evening indulging in craft cocktails and premium steaks, chops and seafood.

The Grill is located in the Hotel Marina North, an upscale, eco-friendly resort that's a nine-minute walk from the Block Island ferry. Its atmosphere is nautical, but not so overt that it becomes a cliche. Guests are treated to spectacular views of the harbor as they dine.

The Grill's dinner menu is decadently upscale, with seafood towers, premium offerings of caviar and house-made charcuterie to get the night off to a great start. Steaks are dry aged, and for those on a romantic outing, two entrees may be ordered for two: a 36-ounce Porterhouse and whole roast heritage chicken.

Stopped by the the Grill in Newport which is located within the 41 North Hotel for some fresh Rhode Island seafood and was not disappointed! We sat outside on the deck, the restaurant was packed but the service was still good and of course the seafood tower was excellent. We would definitely go back on our next visit to the area.

Our party of 4 stopped in for lunch and to enjoy the nice dockside views. To my surprise lunch menu prices were more in the range of dinner prices. The $28 hamburger, the most I've spent on a hamburger in my 70 years walking planet earth, was over cooked well done and not how I ordered it. The two ladies in our party had a salad with topped salmon (extra) and specifically asked for the salmon to be cooked medium to medium rare. Both salad salmon servings arrived at the table well done, dry and crispy. Iced tea is $5 glass and no refills, so on a hot & thirsty day the tea bill can approach the cost of the food. Service was good, but nothing special. Our lunch bill without tip was $180. If the food had lived up to the high price, I may have added another star. YMMV

For a first dinner, on a couple's vacation, you can do no better in Newport than the Grill at Forty 1 North. The food is spectacular, the view is beautiful, and the service from Loretta(SP), made the evening perfect. Fresh seafood, perfect grilled steaks, and hand crafted cocktails were second only to the service we received. Loretta was attentive, enthusiastic, and knowledgeable about the menu and its offerings. If you are looking for a restaurant that offers great scenery, better food, and the best service, ask for Loretta and visit Forty 1 North.

Terrible service. Sat and asked for a brunch menu, the server wasn’t sure if they had one and said she will ask. Then waited 10 minutes before we reminded her again about it. Finally ordered brunch, no joke the worst French Toast I’ve ever ordered in my life. Probably would be good for drinks, but plenty of other good places to try where you’re not going to pay 50 dollars for bad food.

We arrived 15 minutes early for our reservation and check in. I asked for a nice table as the restaurant is outdoor with several tables on the water. The hostess, friendly enough, said our table was ready.. They proceed to take is to a table jammed in the back of the restaurant. I politely asked for a better table, noticing 3 empty tables on the water by the bar. The hostess asks us to wait 10 minutes as the server in that section is busy. 'sure' I say, 'we will be at the bar'. Our party of 3 watches them subsequently seat those 3 tables (I thought the servers were busy, what?) They bring us to a decent table and I ask why I watched them fill those 3 tables. The hostess, started with, the noise about the server, but that obviously made no sense since they seat d people there who arrived AFTER us. Then she said they were disorganized and unexpecting a crowd but to be honest we had a reservation and the restaurant is far from packed as I sit here.. lastly, she just apologized and had nothing to say.. Sorry, that's useless.. Once we got to our table they threw down three menus and water glasses not even silverware and a napkin. The waitress was fine and the food was indeed tasty. But at this level, One would expect all of their staff to be on top of their game. They were not. I would rather service and food VERY differently

Food was average, Price was above average, Service was the biggest disappointment. Our server had a different story each time she cane back to the table about her money issues. Almost like she was fishing for sympathy and a larder tip. All in all not worth the money. Plenty of other places in the area with a better experience and food
