Insignia Prime Steak & Sushi

Insignia Prime Steak & Sushi - Smithtown

Cedar shakes and copper roofing seem to make Insignia Prime Steak & Sushi, at first glance, just another lux Hampton’s mansion. Inside, though, you’ll find some of the best steak in the area, USDA prime and aged, and a fabulous collection of wine. Rooms are comfortable but classy, suitable for a business lunch or a dinner with food-loving friends.

With prime steak and pristine sushi, Insignia Prime Steak & Sushi is a premium protein lover’s paradise, but it’s also a place for lovers of wine, with an 850 bottle wine list.

It all begins with a raw bar of a dozen items, a sushi/sashimi assortment and a bevy of rolls comparable to the city’s best Japanese restaurants. You’ll be tempted to start out with seafood, but if you can’t wait to get to the meat, there’s a Japanese spiced mini-Wagyu burger flight just to get you ready for the red meat entrée.

Steaks are 45-day dry-aged USDA prime, featuring bone-in ribeyes, filets and T-bones. The star of the show is probably the porterhouse for two, but if your tastes tend somewhat lighter, there’s a veal porterhouse that you can probably finish all by yourself.

Zagat describes the décor as ‘splashy,’ and adds, in typical Zagatian style “‘Beautiful inside and out’, this ’chic’ Smithtown surf 'n' turfer from Anthony Scotto (Blackstone, Rare650) flaunts high ceilings, ’modern’ fixtures and a glass-enclosed wine vault, all creating a ’superb atmosphere’ for indulging on ’succulent’ steaks, sushi and an ‘amazing wine list’; patio tables offer a calm alternative to the ’booming’ bar.”

To go with all that, it sounds like you’re going to need a drink, and there’s a lot to choose from at Insignia Prime Steak & Sushi, including lots of wine and a large list of signature cocktails.

For dessert, the staff pastry chefs turn out a stunning array of cakes and pies, and if you have any room left at the end of the meal, you will fall hard for the sweet closing options.
