As you might suspect, the raw bar at Union Prime Steak & Sushi is spectacular, with a beautiful range of oysters, clams and crustaceans. There are also some predictably excellent cooked seafood starters, like oysters Rockefeller and lobster sliders, but if you can’t wait for the beef entrées, there’s an appetizing menu selection called Wagyu Hot Rock that features thin strips of the premium beef and one very warm stone that you can use to quickly cook each wonderfully marbled slice just before eating.
There are enough sushi items on the menu – nigiri, sashimi and rolls – to satisfy even the most enthusiastic fancier of Japanese cuisine.
The meat is USDA prime and carefully aged 35 five days. Porterhouse (or as the menu somewhat idiosyncratically spells it, “Porter House”) can be prepared for two or four, and there are large and small filet mignons, as well as bone-in rib steak for one, two or four, New York sirloin and Kansas City steak.
There is a very large and easy-to-read wine list, with dozens of whites and reds by the glass, and a good selection of splits and large format bottles.
In any steakhouse, ambiance is important, and at Union Prime Steak & Sushi, the surroundings are exquisite without being overbearing. “New York Times” says that the interior of Union Prime Steak & Sushi is “the antithesis of the dark, masculine décor usually associated with steakhouses. The restaurant sparkles with metallic wallpaper, shiny silver leather booths and banquettes and sharp white woodwork. Dark red columns and the occasional potted palm add dots of color.” Sounds like a pleasant place to enjoy delicious steak.
