Carnivore - St. Louis

The team behind this meat-centric project boasts solid roots in The Hill neighborhood. Carnivore is a concept from Joe Smugala and Mike Lutker, and their better halves Kerri Smugala and Casie Lutker. Casie’s great-uncle was famed former resident and sports icon Yogi Berra and the Smugalas own popular area barbecue spot, J. Smugs GastroPit. There's brunch and dinner at Carnivore, plus an ample patio during warmer months.

Maximize

In addition to its meat-heavy menu, Carnivore serves up plenty of Italian dishes. You may order several options family style, for two to four people, with choices like arancini, chicken risotto, and steak medallions.

Those opting for the regular menu will be able to choose one side dish or salad with their steaks, grilled salmon, or signature burger consisting of an eight-ounce prime beef patty.

We were on an impromptu visit to The Hill so we didn't have reservations. Despite that, we were seated within minutes. Our waitress, Amber, was the best!!! She was friendly and positive and even looked up information for us about the area. She continually checked on us and made sure everything was perfect. The food was phenomenal, too! My ravioli was perfect, even without the sauce. My husband's burger was cooked perfectly and his baked potato was huge and full of butter and sour cream. Some of the best food we have had!

This was my First visit with my sister to this restaurant. I made reservations. I was on time and seated immediately (great table by the window!) That was a plus. Super awesome environment! The food was excellent and so was the service! Alexia was a great server and checked on us frequently. This is my new favorite restaurant. Will be back to bring other family/ friends!!!

Amazing food. The decor inside is a little more modern than I originally thought it would be. The plating is wonderful. The first time I went there I didn't even want to eat it. It looked like a masterpiece the flavors of the steak I got were rich and smokey. Everything a steak should be and eith a nice crust on the outside the center was a perfect medium rare and it was juicy. I will be going here again.

My family and I love Carnivore. The filets, salmon, burgers, salads, appetizers and the desserts are delicious and phenomenal as well. A special treat this evening was meeting Mike who just started at Carnivore about a month ago. He assisted the bartender and server in more ways I could mention and proves to be a great asset to this wonderful family owned restaurant. Thank you so much Carnivore and a special thanks to Mike who went well above and beyond providing a great experience as usual!

One delight after another! Starting with the appetizers to the dessert. The staff is incredible and the owners are the best! We are addicted to the food and have NEVER been disappointed.

5 stars are appropriate, not generous. Entrees, specials, deserts and drinks are consistently good. Fries are magical. The point is they do the simple well and the more sophisticated quite well. Numerous visits. Great wait staff. Comfortable setting.

It was incredibly delicious food! Well worth the price. We also had some dietary restrictions that they accommodated with no trouble. Our server, Alexa S, did a particularly awesome job! She was attentive and helpful and was all-around one of the better servers I've come across.

Great place to eat! Food was amazing and they had some different options you don't normally see else where. I had the shrimp and grits and it was fantastic! Only reason why there are four stars and not five is the acoustics in the seating area, with a packed house its gets quite loud and seems like every guest is raising thier voices to hear one another. If you don't mind talking loud, you will enjoy it here.

The food was very very good. We had the shrimp appetizer which had a great slightly spicy sauce. The ribeye was cooked perfectly the mushrooms and butter toppings were delicious. Highly recommend if you want a high end meal with a more casual vibe. Our server was also delightful and very attentive. We will definitely be coming back.

Always a good special with this chef. When the wait staff describes the special, it usually sounds weird (cream sauce on a filet?!), but has never failed to be delicious. The bar is a great place to sit. The dining room is a bit quieter. I'm not a fan of their furniture upstairs, but it's quieter still up there.

Went here for brunch (with a reservation called in ahead of time) around 10:30 on a Sunday. The meal was delicious. I got the steak hash, which I would totally order again. The steak was cooked and seasoned well, and the potatoes were so good. The mimosas were great, but I think I would skip the lemonade cocktail next time. Friendly service and a nice atmosphere.

I had the ribeye and added sautéed mushrooms on top. It was cooked perfectly and it was huge, 16oz. I'm a big guy and took some home. The apps and desserts were awesome. Drinks and wine were flowing. (A $200 night per couple for with tip, will get you about anything you want, but it doesn't have to be that high.) Totally worth it.

We decided to brunch for my sons bday at Carnivore and we were not disappointed at all. It's a really cute restaurant with great staff. Our waitress was very friendly, knowledgeable and patient, considering that this was our first visit here. The food was delicious! I wasn't too crazy about the pancakes but I was satisfied. They also are very accommodating to larger parties as well. This restaurant is definitely on my "return visit" list.

We were seated acceptable time, it was busy. We were seated and waited a long time for service. We then waited a long time for our food. When served mine was not served, it came about 8 minutes later, and everything was cold. I would have given a lower score but others were pleased with their meals. Not something I wish to do again.
