James Beard. Playboy. Plus, a host of notable publications and high-profile food influencers. They've all lauded the venerable London Chop House with accolades throughout the years. Established in the late 1930s by brothers Lester and Sam Gruber, London Chop House has always been an alpha male establishment to visit for a steak and a good time.

Maximize

The menu at London Chop House consists of everything you'd expect of a classic steakhouse. There's grand caviar service with chilled vodka and traditional accompaniments to start. Crab bisque, French onion soup, and an iceberg wedge round out the middle course. And, of course, there are the USDA steaks. They're all finished with house-made garlic butter and served with au poivre, chimichurri, or Béarnaise sauce. Choose from a 14-ounce boneless ribeye, 14-ounce bone-in New York strip, or 32-ounce porterhouse.

Those who prefer non-steak dishes have plenty of options. There's lemon and thyme-brined chicken breast, Alaskan halibut, and boiled whole lobster.

The food and service were both excellent. Live music was a nice touch, and it didn't overpower the room. I would recommend it to anyone looking for a place to go on a special occasion. My only note is on the cocktails. They tasted very good, but the presentation wasn't quite what I would expect in a place like this. My old fashioned was served with crushed ice instead of one large cube, didn't have a luxardo cherry, and the orange garnish wasn't trimmed very well. Overall great experience, and I would definitely eat here again.

One of the best steaks I've ever had! We split the 32oz Porterhouse and it was great. Drinks were good, nice atmosphere and cool cigar lounge. We will definitely be back

We dined here last night as we were celebrating my partner's birthday. The greeting at the host station was friendly and welcoming and included a personal and beautifully printed birthday card for the birthday boy. We were then led to a great corner table where it was quiet but also gave us a view of the entire dining space. However, the best surprise was that Lola was our server. She is the consummate server for an upscale steak house such as The London Chop House because she's knowledgeable, professional yet friendly and attentive to every detail of the meal. We enjoyed the shrimp cocktail, perfectly prepared steaks, tasty side dishes and two magnificent desserts (the chocolate cake and the cherry sorbet). Totally scrumptious...every bite and taste. So, when you want to dine and not simply "go out to eat ", then make a reservation here and be sure to request Lola. You will definitely have a memorable experience.

Best steakhouse in Detroit. If you want an experience that is classy and comfortable without being pretentious this is the place to go. Great food, nice soothing entertainment and an amazing staff make this a great place for a night out. If you are someone who does not like to splurge on a good meal then stick to your Golden Corral

Thank you LCH for a fantastic evening for my son’s birthday! From the second you arrive as the wonderful doorman greets you, you get a first class experience. The service, the food and the ambiance were all top notch. Highly recommend for a special night out.

A classic old style feel restaurant. It takes me back to a classic fine dining experience. Without the pretentious attitude from the wait staff. Our service was awesome. We loved our experience here. The feed was fantastic. They had a two piece musical set together for the evening. It was lovely. The feed was really good!! Their crab bisque and peach cheesecake- a must try for anyone!!!!

Fantastic steaks, love the atmosphere...live jazz band that really adds to the vibe. Waiter was super engaged and worked hard to make our experience the best. Drinks were a bit random and watery. Fix that and you're in. I'll be back!

From the moment you arrive you feel the vibe!! The valet service is top notch!! The atmosphere is classy and you “should” dress accordingly! The food is so flavorful and delicious!! I ordered the lamb chops and they were good not the best I’ve had but definitely good! For an appetizer we had the crab cake it did not disappoint and don’t get me started on the fish and scallops!!🔥 and I don’t even eat scallops but the flavor was on point!! For dessert we had the carrot cake warm and vanilla ice cream and it too was delicious!! Our waitress was very attentive at the beginning and then it seemed as if she just forgot about us at times!! Even walking past the table a few times without checking on us! So, that’s what made what should have been a 5 a 4!! Oh!!! And one more thing the best thing I tasted all night was the French onion soup.. the flavor was rich and it was just touched my soul!

Atmosphere is perfect for an intimate dinner. Dinner, drinks and desserts were all excellent...there are no words to describe how the pork belly melted in our mouths and how the aged 14 oz ribeyes were perfectly cooked, or how the caramel apple ice cream shake was the best shake I've ever had. Our server, Nicole, was amazing and guided us through it all. It was a wonderful experience, worth every penny.

One of the best old school, white tablecloth, rat pack era steakhouses you can find. Service is great. Love the bartenders. Live jazz no cover. Steak is delicious. Get those oysters bc they will not do you wrong. Smashed potatoes and mushrooms.

Went here to celebrate me and my wife’s anniversary and it didn’t disappoint. From the service to the food everything was amazing. The drinks were strong too! We will definitely be back

Great service. Make sure you make reservations and dress appropriately. Valet is $12. The valet staff are very charismatic gentleman. Wait staff, hostess, bartenders and live music was awesome. Bathrooms were very clean. Great ambiance. Nice place to go for a Celebration or to just hang out at the bar 🍸Average cost about $100 per person. 20% gratuity charged for 5 + people and must all be paid for on 1 bill.

Excellent food, vibe and atmosphere. The chef is excellent. Extremly attentive staff and a first class experience all the way around. Live music six nights a week. A Great place to take a date or have a corporate event. Don't miss this place, It's first class!

First of.. I would love to give a 5 star review. . . . I have frequented this place many of times. Each of which is a five star experience. I took my mother to try LCH last night and we were seated with “Rachel C” as our waitress. I’ll still come back. It’s our favorite spot in Detroit. However I did ask Jennifer (hostess) to notate that I’d never like to be seated in her section again. Very rude and vanilla. Seemed overly annoyed. Which maybe it was a simple case of a bad day? However, sending our bill before our meal was up and not offering dessert.. just the little things that could potentially leave a bad taste in your mouth. As always, Dorian was incredible! His persona really makes this place stand out. Thank you!

A great throwback to old Detroit. To the owner’s credit it looks like it did when we all ate there in years bast, with upgrades. We sat in booth two which my parents remembered never sitting in in the hey day. It feels classic. Menu is traditional steak house, meat, salads bisque etc. everything was prepared to the correct temp, tasted good. Service was again classic. If you want to be in and out tell them otherwise it’s a leisurely meal Great place to go for a special event. Most steak houses all feel the same, nice to go somewhere that isn’t Prices compare to capital grille. Apps and salads were a little cheaper, steaks maybe a little more.
