Where do I start? I came here about 5 years ago and it was a great experience. Wonderful burgers and steaks, great atmosphere and good service. I came...
Food and drinks were superb! The staff was very friendly, the overall vibe is great. Love the tables next to the open windows!! 10/10!!
Passable but overpriced food and underwhelming service. I came in a weeknight evening while it was not busy and sat at the bar. Was served a bottle of beer, reasonably tasty but uninspired beef tartare for $21, and a downright basic burger for $28 (I’ve had better for half that within blocks of this place). Server took quite a while to get around to taking my order, came around at odd times, while my mouth was full, in the middle of courses to ask “how was it?”. Atmosphere is fine with a few nice art pieces but nothing special aside from a prime location on tremont. Really couldn’t justify recommending this when it’s surrounded by some of the best restaurants in town.
Pretty rough honestly. Ambience is really cool but the food just isn’t, especially for the price point. Expecting a place called The Butcher Shop to have a good burger, we ordered the $28 burger (medium)… came out basically raw and each bun was thicker than the patty itself. Sub par. Also got the tagliatelle bolognese - solid but a little chewy and too hot like it’d been in the microwave. The couple next to us received a raw pork chop, which they obviously had to send back, which provided good entertainment.
I was really looking forward to taking my wife to The Butcher Shop again. Our first visit (sometime in 2004) was shortly after they had opened, and we had a wonderful experience. We recently moved back to the Boston area and I made reservations for Mother's Day. Let me begin with my praise for the staff that we interacted with, they were kind and wonderful. Sadly, to say that the food was disappointing would be an understatement. I ordered from the Mother's Day prix fixe menu and was looking forward to my prime rib eye. I have no idea what I was given but I can assure you it was not prime rib eye. I am old enough to have eaten my fair share of steaks (at some of the best steak houses around the world). My wife (the reason we were there in the first place) had an even worse experience. To summarize, The Butcher Shop may have once been a "can't miss" eatery, sadly, it is no such place any longer.
