Steakhouse Happy Hours in Chicago, Spring 2018

There’s no better time than spring, fresh out of winter hibernation, to indulge those happy hour cravings. When everyone’s itching to get out and celebrate being social again, it’s an apt time of year to get off work early and linger at your favorite neighborhood joint for some food and drink specials. Fortunately, Chicago is filled with happy hour options all over town, and the city’s steakhouses offer some of the best deals. Here’s where to enjoy happy hour in Chicago’s best steakhouses.

Eddie Merlot's: It's basically happy hour all the time at Eddie Merlot's, thanks to a budget-friendly lounge menu filled with both food and beverage options. This includes $6 snacks like blue cheese potato chips and tempura green beans; $7 items like truffle fries and shrimp crostini; $8 snacks like tenderloin Diane and chicken meatballs; and $9 items like bacon-wrapped figs and tuna poke. There's also a lengthy lineup of burgers and sliders, plus lots of beer, wine pours, cocktails and especially martinis. 

Harry Caray’s Italian Steakhouse: Keeping things casual, comfortable and classic, this River North icon features solid happy hour specials from 4:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. on weekdays. This means $3 Bud and Miller beers on draft, $5 appetizers and $8 specials on featured martinis. 

III Forks Prime Steakhouse: Available on the popular rooftop deck or in the main dining room, III Forks Prime Steakhouse has a solid roster of specials on deck from Monday through Friday, 4:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. It’s got $1 oysters and half-priced draft beers and select cocktails. Because the only thing better than oysters on a rooftop are $1 oysters on a rooftop. 

STK: One of the best happy hours in town can be found at STK, which goes above and beyond with a range of drink and food specials for its Wednesday happy hour and general weekday happy hour. On Wednesday, available all night long, there’s $7 shots of Don Julio, $7 Mules, $7 shots of Jameson. Then on the rest of the weekdays, from 4:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m., guests can indulge in $9 plates of tuna tartare, “Lil Brgs,” shrimp cocktail or oysters by the half-dozen. There’s also $4 beers, $5 glasses of Prosecco and $6 cucumber cocktails. 

Hugo’s Frog Bar & Fish House: With a reputation for its seafood and classic Americana cocktails, you can rest assured knowing that Hugo’s has you covered when it comes to bargain bivalves and drinks. On a daily basis from 3:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m., this Gold Coast crowd-pleaser packs them in for $1 oysters. Then on Sunday through Thursday, this includes half-priced white wines by the glass and Vespers at 50% off as well. 

Morton’s The Steakhouse: $9 “Mortinis,” $8 select glasses of wine and $5.50 beers are a few of the potables to look forward to at any location of Morton’s The Steakhouse, which really goes all out with a variety of specials for their weekday happy hour from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. 

Prime & Provisions: In addition to one of the best bar menus in town, outfitted with affordable comforts like poutine, crispy chicken sandwiches and cheesesteaks, Prime & Provisions also offers $1 oysters after 7:00 p.m. Sunday through Friday in the bar area. 

Ruth’s Chris Steak House: Cocktails and appetizers come at quite a bargain as part of Ruth’s Chris’ “Sizzle, Sizzle, Swirl” happy hour, which offers $9 dishes and drinks and plenty of options. These include hearty plates like crab beignets, roasted chicken sandwiches, steak sandwiches and zucchini fries, plus Cosmopolitans, martinis, Manhattans and select wines and beers.
