This year, Mother’s Day is on May 9th, but whenever the holiday falls, it’s always one of the biggest dining out days in America. Mother’s Day is traditionally the big day when sons and daughters take their mothers out to dine, usually for brunch or dinner.

This year, many Chicago steak houses are putting safety measures in place to ensure that mom is comfortable – and feels super safe! – while she sits back to enjoy some of the finest red meat in the world (though as at most steak houses, all the places listed below have outstanding selections of fish and seafood).

Here are five of Chicago’s absolute best steak houses, each doing something special on Mother’s Day, in honor of the woman who is probably the most special person in the world.

Prime & Provisions

Prime & Provisions. Moms appreciate ambiance, and Prime & Provisions will treat her like a queen in their stately dining room. The restaurant promises “the ultimate Mother's Day Celebration: a grand buffet-style brunch. A member of our service staff will assist with hand plating guest selections from afar to ensure social distance and safety standards are upheld.” On this special day, you don’t want mom to worry about a thing; you want her to enjoy herself in a relaxed – and safe – atmosphere.

STK. STK – one of the sleekest, hippest steakhouses in the city – offers mothers the high-quality service they expect and deserve. The restaurant encourages children to “Earn favorite child status and book your Mother’s Day Brunch reservation.” Whether your mom favors meat or seafood, STK has a stunning collection of both, as well as a lot of outstanding cocktails, and for all she’s done for you, that lady deserves a drink.

RPM. RPM has a lot of style, and the dining room is elegantly appointed, which is the kind of place your mom would appreciate. Oh, and on the menu, there’s some of the best steak in Chicago.  You and your mom are going to love the hand-cut Creekstone filet, but if you or she are looking for something a little more substantial, you can opt for the Beeman Ranch Akaushi Porterhouse, the Imperial Wagyu tomahawk, or the grass-fed bone-in rib-eye. Whatever cut of beef you choose, brunch, lunch or dinner at RPM is going to make this a Mother’s Day to remember. For both of you.

Swift & Sons

Swift & Sons. Having gained a reputation for being one of the finest steak houses in the city of Chicago (and, thus, the world), Swift & Sons serves its big cuts of beef sliced out into portions for easier eating and sharing. The meats on the menu are remarkable: a five-ounce American Wagyu strip loin, a killer Beef Wellington, and in the area of “large format” steaks, there’s the forty-eight ounce Porterhouse. Your mom had a big influence on your life, she’s earned a big appetite.

Artango Bar & Restaurant. Artango Bar & Restaurant is known for its outstanding steaks and its live performances of Argentina’s signature dance: the tango. For Mother’s Day, the restaurant proclaims, “Celebrate Mother's Day at Artango! The dining room will open at 1pm with a special 3-course prix fixe menu, including a choice of appetizer, entrée, and dessert. Kids 12 & under may order from the kid’s menu. Live Latin Jazz will make your celebration memorable.” Sounds like something any mother would really like.
