Chicago Speakeasy - Des Moines
The speakeasy theme never goes out of style. And for Des Moines' famed Chicago Speakeasy steakhouse, that tradition has been going on for more than 40 years since Ron Jaeger founded it in 1978.
Read MoreJaeger's family still owns and operates the establishment, and not much has changed from his original conception. The classic steakhouse decor of hardwood accents and exposed brick walls is dramatized with Capone-era memorabilia. You'll find framed wall art, figurines, and signage reminiscent of that over-glamorized period.
Chicago Speakeasy serves lunch and dinner. Lunch is served Monday through Friday until 4pm with daily specials such as prime rib (Mondays), hot beef sandwich (Wednesdays), and a signature Speakeasy sandwich of sliced roast beef and Swiss cheese on a roll (Fridays).
Guests may order steaks during lunch and also for dinner. They're hand cut and served with a choice of baked potato, steak-fried potatoes, or side of spaghetti with a hot mini loaf of bread and salad bar. Selections range from a 12-ounce top sirloin “Lucky Luciano” to 16-ounce rib-eye “Clyde." There are also three different prime rib choices ("Baby Face," "Big Al's," "Ma Barker"), classic Italian dishes, and a host of seafood entrees.
