Little Rock, Arkansas, has a beautiful skyline and some spots of great natural beauty…and one of the greatest beauties in Little Rock are the big, beautiful steaks offered at local steakhouses.

The people of Little Rock are salt of the earth folks, people who want an honest meal –substantially sized – for a decent price.

Fortunately, there are several steakhouses in Little Rock that offer USDA prime beef, beautifully prepared and served with the classic sides.

Here are five places where you can get a big, beautiful steak in beautiful Little Rock.

The Butcher Shop

Arthur’s Prime Steak House. Little Rock’s Arthur’s Prime Steak House ventures where many other steakhouses fear to tread, and that’s into the land of USDA dry-aged prime steak. Here, you will feast upon all-American T-bones, beef medallions, and Chateaubriand-for-two served tableside. For those who seek out the finest red meat, Arthur’s also offers Kobe Style Australian Wagyu Beef (filet, ribeye, and tomahawk steaks), as well as Certified Japanese Wagyu, the “ultimate beef experience,” served by the ounce, and destined to become one of the most memorable bites of your life.

Riverfront Steakhouse. Filet mignon, porterhouse and New York strip steak are carefully prepared at Riverfront Steakhouse according to a time-tested kitchen procedure. The steaks, says owner Frank Fletcher, “are first heavily salted and peppered and then placed in the infra-red broiler oven and seared. When almost done, they are removed from the infra-red broiler oven, basted in butter, then placed back in the oven on the serving plate. At this point, the juices in the meat break down the salt and pepper, creating a basted ‘crust,’ which is slowly dissolved by the heated butter and drawn into the meat.” In short, yum.

Saltgrass Steak House. With locations all over Texas, Louisiana and now Arkansas, the Saltgrass Steak House in Little Rock serves some of the absolute best red meat you will find in the South. In keeping with the philosophy that it’s most desirable to use high-quality ingredients and then not mess them up with lots of sauces and such, the Wagon Boss Top Sirloin, Maudeen’s Center Cut Filet and Cowboy Ribeye and many others are served with only a potato or other side, with few distractions, the better to help you focus on the beautiful piece of meat in front of you.

Doe's Eat Place

The Butcher Shop. The Butcher Shop in Little Rock has been providing Arkansas with hickory charcoaled steaks from the highest-quality Midwestern grain-fed beef since 1982. Here’s what we’re talking about: Porterhouse, rib eye and filets are on the menu, of course, but we understand if your eyes are attracted by the slow-roasted prime rib. The Butcher Shop takes a whole boneless prime rib, gives it a dash of house seasoning, and then slow roasts it for a minimum of 16 hours, until it’s a perfect medium rare; you will love it.

Doe’s Eat Place. The name Doe’s Eat Place says it all: this restaurant is down-home simple, serving up the absolute best in a relaxed atmosphere. Featured in Jane and Michael Stern’s “Eat Your Way across the U.S.A. and having played host to internationally known personalities like Bill Clinton, Doe’s Eat Place has built its reputation on a lot of things, but mostly by serving fantastic food. You can start with the hot tamales and chili, but you really must enjoy some of their excellent red meat including T-bone, porterhouse, filet, and sirloin, perfectly prepared to your preferences, and served family style.
